This paper describes a planar single‐layer rectangular‐slot antenna, fed by a microstrip ending in a fork‐shaped tuning stub, for wireless ultra‐wideband (UWB) communications. The realized prototype exhibits a stable bidirectional gain pattern in the 3.1–10.6‐GHz UWB. Moreover, the antenna is “nondispersive” and minimizes the distortion of the transmitted pulsed signals at different azimuth and elevation angles. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
