The high‐order‐mode coupling of acousto‐optic modulations in a tilted fiber grating is experimentally demonstrated to be greatly enhanced due to the superposition of dual acousto‐optic‐modulations. The performance is based on the phase matching between two acousto‐optic‐modulations of different frequency in a fiber Bragg grating. The device can be applied in a switchable multiwavelength comb filter or a switchable multiwavelength fiber laser. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
