Linearization of a BJT using a diode configured in parallel with the input reduces 2 nd ‐order distortion. Using a simple behavioral model cannot explain why this reduces IMD 3 . The experimental work presented in this paper will verify the mechanism involved and the possible range for reducing IMD 3 by reducing the 2 nd ‐order effects. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
