The results of a recent investigation of a high‐gain microstrip reflectarray are presented. The substrate–superstrate resonance technique is used to increase the reflectarray gain. The measured gain is increased by 5 dB when the superstrate layer is added. Gain and radiation patterns are discussed. In order to use this technique in reflectarrays with phase‐control elements, the analysis and discussion of the phase reflected by a particular unit cell made up of a slotted and grounded patch are presented. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
