Abstract Nonuniform transmission lines (NUTLs) have several advantages over uniform ones. One of the NUTLs, the exponentially tapered lossless nonuniform transmission line (ETLNUTL), has found various applications in microwave technology. Due to complicated equations associated with the ETLNUTL, a graphical solution is needed to assist the analysis and design. In this paper, a generalized ZY Smith chart developed for lossless nonreciprocal uniform transmission lines, called the T‐chart , is applied to solve ETLNUTL problems readily and intuitively. It is found that the T‐chart provides accurate results when compared to the analytical solutions. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
