The design and radiation characteristics of a wideband quarter‐wave patch with a single‐layer capacitive feed are presented. The E‐plane radiation pattern of the antenna is shown to be very dependent on the size of the ground plane, and the results for two extreme cases are obtained in order to illustrate this effect. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
