A broadened spiral inductor with arithmetic‐progression step width is proposed to improve the quality factor ( Q factor). The results show that Q factor can be greatly enhanced by tapering the spiral inductor. The enhancement of Q factor by increased step width and associated eddy‐current loss reduction is also studied. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
