In this paper, we present a novel waveband‐selective router (WBSR) based on DWDM thin‐film filters. The maximum insertion loss of the proposed 3 × 3 WBSR is 4.73 dB and the crosstalk is around 20 dB. In comparison with the arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) router, the novel WBSR has practical importance for reducing the port count and decreasing the cost of optical cross‐connect (OXC). © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
