A longitudinal‐transverse waveguide slot coupler has usually been modelled as a shunt‐series ideal transformer. This is not true, nor is an approximation, even for resonant couplers. In this paper, we first present a discussion of the properties of such a slot coupler and of the admissible approximations which can be used in the coupler modelling. Then we derive an equivalent circuit in the form of a nonideal admittance inverter, which becomes an ideal one for resonant slots, and set the limit of the model itself. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
