The implementation of wireless local area networks (WLANs) inside buildings is growing rapidly. It is important to predict the indoor coverage zone. The propagation‐prediction models proposed in recent years have paid attention to the effects of propagation and reflection. But in a small room with metallic furniture, diffraction is the main influence upon path loss. Propagation loss and the diffraction loss are considered in the propagation‐prediction model that we propose in this paper. The simulation and measurement results are obtained in order to verify the feasibility of this model. The mean error between the measurement and simulation results is within 2 dB. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
