In this paper, a new reflectarray cell consisting of a variable‐length slot etched in a microstrip patch is presented. The phase shift is achieved by controlling the length of the slot. Two different structures are proposed: the first one uses a single patch with a single slot while the second involves three coupled patches sharing two slots. Good agreement between the simulations and measurements is obtained for passive structures designed at 5.7 GHz in a waveguide. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
