Abstract New, very simple closed‐form formulas for calculating the patch length and width of electrically thin and thick rectangular microstrip antennas (MSAs) are presented. They are obtained by means of a curve‐fitting technique, and are useful for the computer‐aided design of microstrip antennas. The theoretical results obtained by using these new patch length and width formulas are in very good agreement with the experimental results available in the literature. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
