A novel approximate method for estimating the guide wavelength of a double‐layer slotline is presented. The guide wavelength curve of a physically symmetric double‐layer slotline is estimated from the data of two special types of slotline. A linear combination of two curves in the former approximation is used for a general double‐layer slotline. The results of the proposed method are compared with numerical computation and its high level of accuracy is confirmed. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
