In this paper, for the first time (to our knowledge) the characteristics of a filter based on cascaded high‐birefringence fiber (HBF) loop mirrors are described. The characteristics of the filter are analyzed theoretically and an expression of the output intensity is given. The experimental results conform well with our theory. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
