We propose a method to monitor the center wavelengths of wavelength‐division multiplexed optical channels simultaneously using a temperature‐modulated arrayed waveguide grating (AWG). With this method, we can reduce the cost by using standard AWGs. Also, monitoring errors can be greatly suppressed in the presence of amplified‐spontaneous‐emission noises. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
