A broadband low‐profile printed T‐shaped monopole antenna is presented. It is demonstrated that, by short‐circuiting the central arm of a low‐profile T‐shaped monopole to the ground plane, much improved impedance matching over a wide frequency range can be achieved. A constructed prototype showing a low profile of only 3 mm and a wide bandwidth larger than 1.1 GHz covering the 5.2/5.8‐GHz WLAN bands is presented. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
