A novel tri‐band, multifingered antenna is proposed. With the integration of the electromagnetic bandgap as an impedance‐matching element, a wider impedance bandwidth response is obtained. The proposed antenna is also noted to be smaller in size, as compared to the conventional microstripfed tri‐band antenna. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
