A dual‐band strip‐sleeve monopole antenna fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) is presented. The antenna is designed to operate at 900 and 1800 MHz in a vehicular telephone. It is printed on a dielectric substrate and may be integrated with a microwave circuit manufactured on the CPW. It has been investigated numerically and experimentally. The results show that the designed antenna can provide satisfactory performance for GSM/DCS systems, including a sufficiently wide‐frequency band and a good radiation pattern. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
