The performances of time‐domain optical code‐division multiple access (OCDMA), using a Gaussian model for an optical amplified channel, are evaluated. Interest in spectral spreading to take advantage of low‐cost optical filtering conditions is pointed out and the simultaneous effects of multiaccess interference (MAI) and optical noise on optical detection are demonstrated. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
