A trapezoidal short‐circuited patch excited by a hook‐shaped probe is designed to achieve a wideband performance. The antenna achieves 45% bandwidth with around 4.0‐dB gain. The computed reflection coefficients and radiation patterns are computed and verified experimentally. The main beam of the patch is tilted by about 60° from the broad side. A linear array is analyzed and the array elements are phased to point the main beam to the same direction. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
