Experimental and simulated results for a wideband T‐probe‐fed circular patch antenna which has dipole‐like radiation patterns are presented. With an antenna thickness of ∼0.14 times the free‐space wavelength of the center operating frequency, the proposed antenna can achieve a bandwidth of ∼32% and produce dipolelike conical radiation patterns. The measured gain is in the range of 4.0–6.0 dBi in the passband. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
