The eigenequation of a circular chiral ferrite dielectric waveguide is derived. The effects of chiralities in the core and cladding on the cutoff, the dispersion characteristics, and the field distributions are investigated. The results show that, not only the cutoff frequencies, but also the dispersion curves of HE and EH modes with the same mode number separate, and the chiralities in the core and cladding have different effects on the cutoff and dispersion characteristics. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
