The optimum susceptance and position for compensation of the match and isolation performances of a quadrature directional coupler are perspicuously derived in this paper. Furthermore, various frequency responses of the coupler with either capacitive or inductive loading are given to elucidate the characteristics of a susceptance‐loaded quadrature directional coupler as well. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
