One of the strongest limitations in metamaterials technology is the constraint of the lattice constant to be much smaller than the incident wavelength. This paper describes an experiment, based on SSRs at 50 GHz, to restore the resonant behavior even if such a constraint is not fulfilled, thus suggesting a way to reach infrared and visible frequencies. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
