The aim of this study is to examine a coplanar bandpass filter (BPF) with attenuation poles using point‐coupled λ/4 resonators. The first part of this paper describes the resonance characteristics of the λ/4 resonators with chosen excitation methods. Secondly, the design of the BPF with attenuation poles using the λ/4 resonators is carried out based on general filter theory with narrowband approximation. A comparison between theory and experiment is also performed. It is confirmed that the method presented is useful for improving the BPF's skirt characteristics using λ/4 resonators. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
