Detuning is evaluated in the printed inverted‐F antenna for the 2.45‐GHz ISM band. Measurements and simulations are presented for a wooden desktop, a plastic enclosure, and an automobile body. Installed return loss differed significantly from free space and therefore near‐field and environmental‐resonance effects need to be accounted for. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
