Abstract In this paper, a linear dual‐polarized stacked antenna array that operates well within the ISM‐band for W‐LAN base station applications is presented. The array comprises a bottom patch diagonally fed by a microstrip line and a superstrate layer with four parasitic patches stacked above the bottom layer. The design parameters are simulated and the impedance and radiation characteristics of an optimized antenna configuration are presented and compared against the measured results. The antenna is shown to satisfy the requirements for a base‐station antenna and capable of having a broad bandwidth for VSWR ≤ 1.5. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
