This paper presents measured results for the improved bandwidth of a microstrip antenna using coupling techniques in conjunction with matching circuits. The proposed technique is applied to probe‐fed and aperture‐coupled microstrip antennas. The measured bandwidth for a probe‐fed and an aperture‐coupled antenna is increased up to about 14%, which can be further increased by obtaining the proper size of the impedance locus and using the matching technique. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
