In this paper, we present a fast convergent technique that can generate an accurate FDTD simulation result using a relatively coarse mesh for PEC planar structures if an effective factor is properly selected. The effective size of a PEC is about one half cell smaller than its actual dimensions regardless of cell size. A microwave patch antenna and a low pass filter are used to validate the proposed scheme. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
