This paper reports on dynamically gain‐flattened C‐ and L‐band erbium‐doped fiber amplifiers (DGF‐EDFAs), whose dynamic gain ranges are above 20 dB and 24 dB, respectively. This paper gives the detailed test and comparative results for DGF‐EDFAs based on the use of a voltage‐controlled fiber‐based gain tilt controller and a variable optical attenuator. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
