Abstract In this paper, we investigate the effect of the offset patch and layer misalignments on the broadband characteristics of a two‐layer, electromagnetically coupled, stacked patch antenna with airgap at the X‐band. Linear and angular displacements of the parasitic patch on the dielectric layer are considered for the experimental study. The measured results show very robust impedance characteristics of the proposed antenna element against layer misalignment. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
