A novel metal‐plate antenna easily constructed by folding a single metal plate is proposed. The antenna comprises a radiating portion, a vertical ground portion, and a horizontal ground portion, and is easily fed by using a 50Ω coaxial line. A constructed prototype suitable for application in the 2.4‐GHz WLAN band is demonstrated. Details of the proposed antenna design are described, and experimental results of the constructed prototype are presented. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
