This paper presents a new feeding structure for increasing the impedance bandwidth of a suspended plate antenna. A vertical probe‐fed conducting sheet is used to feed the radiating plate instead of a thin probe. The measurements of the impedance and radiation characteristics of the proposed suspended plate antenna are carried out. A 2:1 VSWR impedance bandwidth of 60% is achieved. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 38: 21–25, 2003
