A novel design of a T‐coupled circular microstrip antenna with H‐shaped aperture for bandwidth and radiation gain improvements is presented in this paper. The circular patch determines the certain resonated frequency, the H‐shaped aperture structure is used to obtain a response for the desired (3.7–4.2 GHz) band, and then the T‐coupled feed line enhances the response of the band using the impedance‐matching technique. In addition, the available radiation gain (4.5–5.0 dBi) is also obtained. This design procedure is described and the simulated and experimental results, including frequency response and radiation patterns, are presented and discussed. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
