Some novel compact microstrip resonant cells (CMRCs) are proposed and analyzed. With specific patterns etched on the microstrip line, these cells exhibit different characteristics of slow wave and bandstop. CMRCs are incorporated into a low‐current‐consumption transmitting/receiving (TX/RX) switch and a 4 th ‐subharmonically pumped mixer. The performance is greatly improved. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 37: 158–162, 2003; Published online in Wiley InterScience (www.interscience.wiley.com).
