A new kind of optical fiber Bragg grating (FBG) pressure sensor is introduced by using the wavelength encoding characteristic of FBG. This sensor combines a computer monitor with a series of FBGs of different wavelengths. The measurement time is 1 ms/point. It can be widely used on a real‐time tracing system for high‐speed trains, to obtain the train's parameters, such as position, velocity, acceleration, “out of joint,” etc. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
