A new approach, the multipole theory (MT) method, is presented for the computation of the quasi‐TEM parameters of cylindrical strip and microstrip lines. The inhomogeneous field domain of cylindrical strip and microstrip lines is treated as a combination of several simple homogeneous regions, and the solution of the boundary‐value problem is represented by the generalized MT formula. Representative computational examples, including single cylindrical stripline, coupled cylindrical stripline, and microstrip line, are presented to validate the theory and demonstrate the accuracy and flexibility of the MT method. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
