A numerical study of microwave radiometry for malignant breast cancer tumors is presented. The numerical results show that the brightness temperature of malignant tumors exhibits a resonant behavior versus the frequency. The brightness magnitude decreases with the tumor burial depth, however, the resonance frequencies depend only on the tumor's size and material and are independent of the burial depth. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
