Abstract A new, very simple closed‐form expression for computing the bandwidth of rectangular microstrip antennas with thick substrates is presented. It is obtained by means of a curve‐fitting technique, and is useful for the computer‐aided design of microstrip antennas. The theoretical bandwidth results obtained by using this new bandwidth expression are in very good agreement with the experimental results reported elsewhere. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
