The electric field distribution inside a cylindrical or spherical scatterer with negative‐real permittivity and permeability is investigated. For large‐size parameters, intensity tends to focus on the main axis at a location shifted from the center towards the front surface. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
