Abstract The authors investigate the chromatic dispersion effects in millimeter‐wave upconverting fibre‐optic links employing EOM‐based photonic electrical QAM/PSK modulators. It is shown that, because the carrier suppression effect is mitigated in these links, a transmission system bandwidth wider than in the conventional case is achieved. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
