In this paper, the reflection coefficient of a flanged rectangular waveguide radiating into a dielectric slab is rigorously studied with the Fourier transform and mode‐matching technique. Residue calculus is used to convert the reflection coefficient into rapidly convergent series. Computations are performed to illustrate the numerical efficiency of the reflection coefficient. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
