Scattering of a plane wave with linear polarization by a chiral‐coating conducting sphere is presented. The expressions for the expansion coefficients of scattered fields and internal fields are obtained. The achiral‐coating and the bare sphere limiting cases for these formulas are examined. The monostatic and bistatic radar cross‐section (RCS) for three different chiral media: a lossless dielectric chirality, a loss dielectric chirality and a loss magnetic chirality are shown. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
