This paper presents a 2 GHz LINC transmitter demonstrator that generates a 16‐QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) signal using switchable phase shifters fabricated on a low cost substrate (FR4, 1.6 mm, ε r = 4.6). The number of switch elements required has been reduced from 16 per branch to 6 per branch by a careful analysis of the complete set of combinations required. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
