Narrow‐linewidth wavelength‐tunable fiber laser controlled by intracavity feedback‐injected Fabry–Perot laser diode

Narrow‐linewidth and wavelength‐tunable operation of erbium‐doped fiber laser (EDFL) by optically feedback‐injecting an intracavity Fabry–Perot laser‐diode (FPLD) driven at nearly threshold condition is demonstrated. An optimized lasing linewidth and a side‐mode suppressing ratio of 0.1 nm and >27 dB are obtained, respectively. Linear wavelength tuning of >4 nm by adjusting temperature of FPLD from 20 to 45 °C is reported. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
