A new technique for propagation modeling in multipath contexts is proposed as a fast and sufficiently precise alternative to ray‐based techniques. This technique is based on frame decomposition of source fields into a set of Gaussian beams. Its validity is demonstrated in the case of wave propagation in a rectangular metallic waveguide. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
