Abstract A simulation of radar absorbing materials (RAM) with multiple composite coatings is given, including theory, methodology, and techniques. To illustrate the theory and method of multiple composite coatings, the basic tracking calculation method and pure‐shape optimum are also introduced. In addition, the simulation process and examples with multiple coatings are described. Experimental results show that the simulation is effective, and the multiple coatings provide considerable microwave absorption. The multiple coatings used are types of broadband coatings. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
