The influence of the ridge position on the cutoff wavelength of the dominant mode in a single‐ridge waveguide is analyzed by the finite‐element method. The cutoff wavelength can be adjusted by changing the ridge dimensions as well as by adjusting its position. More design data are presented. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
