This Letter describes a slot loop antenna that is partially short circuited in order to create beam tilt in the far‐field radiation for the purpose of reduced SAR. Here the characteristics of a partly shorted slot loop constructed on low‐dielectric‐constant PCB material, ε r = 2.33 designed to operate at 2400 MHz are illustrated. The loop is fed from a microstrip line, removing the requirement for the balun feed arrangement normally required for loop antennas. The resulting antenna exhibits a 30° beam tilt and has an estimated gain of 6 dBi. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
