In this Letter a new algorithm to compute the corner‐point field components of a two‐dimensional (2‐D) Mur absorbing boundary condition (ABC) in the finite‐difference–time‐domain (FDTD) method is presented. It is shown that field value calculation at the corner points of the truncation domain affects the accuracy of the FDTD. The proposed scheme overcomes the drawbacks of reflection on the truncated boundary and computation divergence that may occur when the existing scheme is used. Numerical examples are illustrated to validate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
